Scenes from June 11, 2014 visit.  The Maritime Museum, opened in 1980 in the former San Pedro municipal ferry terminal, has lots of interesting background on the port area.
An exhibit of Starkist memorabilia.  Starkist closed its Terminal Island plant in 1985 due to "high labor costs compared to its Puerto Rico and American Samoa canneries," according to the company website.

In 1949, engineer Otis Barton went to a depth of 4,500 feet in his benthoscope (>).  In the late 1920s Barton had worked with naturalist William Beebe on the more famous bathysphere, which in 1934 went to a then record depth of 3,028 feet.
