Recovery Efforts
We visited the
FEMA Disaster Recovery Center at UCLA Research
Park West (10850 West Pico Blvd....the old
Westside Pavilion) a couple of times on the
January trip, and I also visited coinciding
with the trip brother Miguel, wife Anne, and I
made to the house on Feb. 9. The centers
(there is a second one at the Pasadena City
College Community Education Center) opened on
Jan. 14. Dozens of federal, state and
local agencies and non-profit organizations
are represented, and the people there have
been very helpful. Meanwhile, local officials have
held many Zoom town halls and meetings to
keep residents apprised of the latest
developments. The onerous task of
insurance itemization is ongoing as
well. Conventional wisdom is that
rebuilding could take three to five years.
