Arriving

| 30 June 2025 - After a week in the
Bay of Islands, I took the bus back to Auckland, did
a brief stay at the Lylo Auckland hostel. On
Monday I took ANZ flight NZ 675 to Dunedin, which
takes a bit under two hours. The view from the
plane shows the city of Dunedin, Otago Harbour, and
(R to L) St. Clair Beach, St. Kilda Beach, Lawyer's
Head, and Tomahawk Beach. Dunedin encompasses
a very large geographical area that includes rural
and unpopulated areas in addition to the urban
areas. The airport is about 30 km from the
city so one sees the surrounding countryside
including logging, farmland and Mosgiel.
Dunedin has a population of about 132,000, making it
the second largest city on the South Island and the
sixth largest in New Zealand. |

| Following are a few pictures from my
first couple of weeks back in Dunedin before school
started (some taken with iPhone). I was
preoccupied with searching for accommodations but
did manage to get to some things including Science
Fest and exhibitions at the art gallery and
museum. Another highlight was the tour of the
University of Otago's New Zealand Marine Studies
Centre in Portbello. |
