The Leith (Owheo)

30 October - I'd been noticing a pair of paradise shelducks (pūtangitangi) in the Leith for some weeks when walking to school from the bus stop.  More recently, however, I saw only the male.  The explanation came on the morning of 29 October when I saw the mother and a fleet of nine (!) ducklings.  However, I didn't have my 70-200 lens, so I couldn't take any decent shots.  I brought it the next morning, but the ducks weren't there.  Fortunately on the way home, I did see them and was ready.
Synchronized diving.
Seven of the nine.
The mother duck came down from the wall and paddled around for a bit, while the father duck stayed up on the wall.

The famous dancing seagulls of the Leith are also interesting to watch.
