Sunday Morning Trip on Bus 18 to Harington Point
and Back

24 August 2025 - On
Sunday morning I took the early 18 bus to Harington
Point near the end of the Peninsula. The trip
out there takes an hour. As the buses run
infrequently on the weekend and go all the way to
Harington Point very infrequently, I got off where
the Monarch cruises leave from, walked around the
area for a few minutes, and then caught the bus as
it headed on the return trip to the city.
There was an amazing quiet as I looked out across
the flat water toward the mouth of the
Harbour. A slightly rough edge to the line of
the horizon marked the open sea. I walked
around for a few minutes until the bus showed
up. Stopping at Portobello for a while, I
walked around the mudflat where the low tide had
left exposed many clumps of Neptune's necklace (Hormosira
banksii) seaweed as well as rocks graffitied
by distinctive white worm tubes. Finally, I
caught another 18 bus back to the city.

While waiting for the bus, I walked
over at saw the Eibe Oldendorff
(general cargo ship, 180m long, built in 2015, flag
Madiera) at berth. The bus left around
8:38. I took most of my photos through the
window of the moving bus, and in a few of the images
one can see reflections off the glass.
