Aboriginal Contemporary

Vincent Namatjira's double portrait "Albert and Vincent" shows his great-grandfather, Albert Namatjira, who was also a famous artist, and, on an adjacent canvas, a self portrait.  Vincent was the first Aboriginal artist to win the Archibald Prize (in 2020 with his double portrait "Stand Strong for Who You Are").  Albert became very well known for watercolour landscapes; in 1954 he presented Queen Elizabeth with one of his paintings.  See also:  Staff.  "Vincent Namatjira's 'cheeky revenge': the Archibald prize winner's past work - in pictures."  The Guardian, 28 Sept. 2020.  and Interview, The National Gallery of Australia.

Richard Bell's "From Little Things Big Things Grow."  This work is part of the "Ever Present: First Peoples Art of Australia" exhibition, which is at National Gallery of Australia from 14 Sep. 2024-24 Aug. 2025.  (The Exhibition previously toured in Perth, Singapore, and Auckland).
