Aboriginal Dot Painting
|
| Aboriginal dot painting originated in
the Papunya settlement in Northern Territory,
northwest of Alice Springs, in 1971. In
addition to canvases which are sold in art galleries
around Australia, one sees a lot of this kind of
design on construction hoardings and bunting and in
a commercial context. One gallery director I
spoke with described the latter works somewhat
dismissively as "graphic design." |
