10 September - A mayoral debate forum organized by Generation Screwed at the University of Otago drew five candidates (L-R: Mandy Mayhem, Sophie Barker, Mickey Treadwell, Jules Radich, and Ben Ong).  Carmen Houlahan had been scheduled to appear but was a no show; Andrew Simms had a scheduling conflict due to his position as chair of the Mosgiel Taieri Community Board; and Lee Vandervis also could not make the event.   ("Generation Screwed is a student-led political movement across New Zealand, standing up for the next generation of taxpayers. We’re fighting to make housing affordable, taxes fair, and government debt sustainable.")
After the forum, a man pressed the candidates on the need to provide quality, affordable housing for students.
