Dunedin—Confident, Fluid Lines

Due to my focus on photography, I haven't done any drawing for several decades.  Several current and late Dunedin area artists have the kind of confident, fluid lines I admire.
5 July 2025 - Japanese street artist Koryu Aoshima, active in Dunedin for several years, created this spectacular chalk art at Dunedin Railway Station to mark the All Blacks v France rugby match.

Lindsay Crooks was a Dunedin artist (1957-2005) whose works show smooth, confident, flowing lines, bright colors and and whimsical humor.

Dunedin artist Ralph Miller (1918-1956) started out in his family's sign painting business and developed a fluid style.  One of his works, "Window Shoppers," is on display at Otago Art Society in the Dunedin Railway Station.

July 7, 2025 - A more painstaking approach to linework was evident at the Dunedin Community Centre when Tibetian monks from the Dhargyey Buddhist Center created a sand mandala to mark the Dalai Lama's 90th birthday.  Tapping on the chakpur (metal funnel with ridges), the monk releases colored sand to create the detailed designs.  At the end of the week the room and the mandala were cleared.
