| Working with different clays there is
the problem of different shrinkage rates which leads
to cracking. I did make one pot with two
clays, but ended up with swirl rather than distinct
patches or bands. Another approach I need to
try is to mix the stains in the clay. |

| Is it possible to represent different textures, colours and shades using different clays and surface treatments? |

| Locke referred me to the works of Sue Scobie,
which is very much on point. Even before
seeing these I had been wanting to look more into
porcelain. Form Gallery: "She primarily takes inspiration from the world around her - the colours, forms, sounds and textures of the land, sea and bush are limitless. All of Sue’s work is hand-formed by pinching and coiling using combinations of porcelain and stoneware clays with the silky, translucent porcelain contrasting with the rough, gritty stoneware." |
