Applied Gerda's commercial clear
glaze. Although the rough unglazed surface is
more rocklike, I am hopeful the glossy black will
contrast with and highlight the rough surfaces of
the barnacles.

All but one of the remaining mussels
prised off.

 |
A very disappointing final
result. The mussels failed and some of them
also fell off.

Reglazing the mussels with blue stain
in Locke's Clear. Looking at the photo there
could be a problem...the clump at top seems to have
a solid coat, while the others appear spotty.

Locke's Clear on the mussels.
The result is unsatisfactory; the mussels need to be
bluish.

 |
The mussels are disproportionately
large and not crowded together enough. I mixed
some white clay with blue stain added into the black
clay, but it wasn't enough to notice. Several
of the mussels were not well attached and fell off
(in sharp contrast to actual mussels in nature which
are very strongly attached).
