INTERESTING RESEARCH ALL AROUND!

Dr. Miles Lamare views a sample from The Urchin Disturber.  Dr. Lamare is head of the Department of Marine Science at the University, served as principal investigator of Antarctic Science Platform, and has done extensive research on marine invertebrates and larval ecology (>).
Dr. Robert O. Smith's expertise is in physical oceanography.  He is currently pursuing research on periodic phytoplankton blooms off the coast.
Dr. Simon Morley, a J.A. Valentine visiting professor, is a ecophysiologist and member of the British Antarctic Survey.  After studying how Antarctic limpets react to thermal changes, he is now looking at responses of closely related limpets in other parts of the world.
MSc student Dev Morris, who is conducting research on the topic of "Baby kina and their growth in acidic seawater," has been very helpful in explaining some of the complications and challenges that arise in this type of research. 
MSc student Niamh Tasker is studying the effects of climate change on triplefin egg development.
MSc student Satish Cussins is working on a study of kina growth that reprises a study done in the early 1990s.
PhD student Preston Maluafiti's thesis topic is "Bioactive variability of the invasive kelp Undaria pinnatifida."
