First Church of Otago on Moray Place opened in November 1873.  The Presbyterian church sits on the remains of Bell Hill, much of which was removed by convicts to make way for Princes Street.  The spire is 60 metres tall.  First Church has undergone several rounds of restoration since the 1950s, and is scheduled to be closed from January to May 2025 for more upgrades.  See: Ruby Shaw.  "Church to close during upgrade."  Otago Daily Times, Dec. 18, 2024.

Knox Church, the second Presbyterian church, opened in 1860 at another location.  The foundation stone for this building was laid in 1872 and it took four years to complete.
