The Otago Daily Times, founded in 1861 and New Zealand's oldest daily newspaper, is an independent newspaper run by Allied Press.  The newspaper operates from the distinctive Allied Press Ltd. building on lower Stuart Street.  The building was constructed in 1928 and formerly served as headquarters of the Evening Star.  The two papers merged in 1975.
Just this month reporters moved from the old newsroom on the top floor of the building to a new newsroom on the second floor.
Allied Press publishes papers around the southern region of the South Island.
Robbie Baxter, manager of quality control at the Otago Daily Times, with Sir Julian Smith, chairman of Allied Press.
Sir Julian started on the board of the Evening Star in 1974; he stepped down from day-to-day running of the Allied Press in 2016.
