campgrounds around Yosemite National Park.
Obtaining a camping reservation in Yosemite is a
challenge due to high demand, and many of the
campgrounds are closed in the winter.

The Great American Outdoors Act, passed
in 2020, is providing billions in funding to address
deferred maintenance needs in national parks around the
country. >
According to a Yosemite National Park Infrastructure
Fact Sheet for FY2022 there were $1.1 billion in
deferred maintenance and repairs in the Park. A
list showed 39 projects in the current funding stream
with a total estimated cost of $253.3 million. >
Many big and small projects are underway around the
Valley. Notably the long-time visitor center is
closed, and a new visitor center is to open in a matter
of days. Indeed, a staffer was busy stocking
shelves. The new visitor center, near the Village
Store, is closer to parking. |

Yosemite Conservation Heritage Center,
formerly known as the LeConte Memorial Lodge, is the
Sierra Club's home in Yosemite. Built in 1903, the
building was the original visitor center in the
Valley. It was re-named in 2016 "in a rejection of
his [Joseph LeConte's] 19th-century writings on racial
superiority." It is open from May-September. >
